| Subject: NZ Firefighters in mourning at the loss of one of their own Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:25 am | |
| Yesterday a coolstore caught fire in the country area of Tamahere near Hamilton. Firefighters were called to what was the smell of gas, and less than two minutes after they had entered the building, the building erupted in a fireball. Two crews had gone in, the senior station officer unfortunately lost his battle, badly burned and with his heart having stopped. Another fireman, the only fireman left standing of the eight who had gone in, pulled his boss out and started CPR. Several are still in critical care, one is in the burns unit and the young lad who pulled the station officer out was also suffering from burns. http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/423466/1687685http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/1316907/1688829http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/423466/1688544http://www.tv3.co.nz/News/NationalNews/Story/tabid/423/articleID/51593/cat/65/Default.aspxThis devastating fire is being called one of NZ's biggest and I can remember hearing of several. All firestations around NZ are flying their flags at halfmast. Please say a prayer for the lost officer, his family, those injured and those of the fire fighting family and also those that have been affected, police, ambulance, hospital staff, onlookers, helpers. | |
